I am excited to share what IFSCC Platinum Sustaining Members are saying about our myriad compost collaborations in Illinois. On a personal level, I know that the work I do as IFSCC Administrator is dependent on folks like these.

This blog post is also a personal “Thank you” for the commitment to financially supporting our coalition at the highest level, while also hoping to bring visibility about IFSCC to the entire state of Illinois. Together we are continually moving the compost needle via business operations, aligned missions, and more!

EcoProducts

As a Certified B Corporation with a Zero Waste mission, Eco Products champions effective composting infrastructures that focus on food scraps and packaging. Across the country they collaborate with organizations that share their purpose. In addition to the IFSCC, they also participate in coalitions like BPI, USCC, SPC, and other regional and state associations to advocate for composting solutions.

“Taking collaborative action through our membership of IFSCC allows Eco Products to amplify our Zero Waste message and build momentum in the state of Illinois. As a supporter of IFSCC since 2019, we make valuable connections while sharing best practices and ideas for innovative solutions. Together we are moving the needle to develop composting infrastructures within the Land of Lincoln. The range of our collaborative success includes: the expansion of commercial composting access in McHenry County, delivering composting education, and implementing a multi-venue waste study, “CompostABLE Chicago” where we literally worked side-by-side to sort through the trash! Real influence grows through productive collaborations and our collective voice. Eco Products appreciates our continued partnerships with IFSCC as we move forward together.” ~Jamie Brown, Product & Zero Waste Specialist

The Mulch Center

The Mulch Center is a large Chicagoland mulch and compost manufacturer. It offers the highest quality products & reliable delivery to over 20,000 homes annually. Their model is simple – they recycle garden and landscape byproducts, transforming them into beneficial organic amendments. Spread it around!

Thanks to a partnership with Midwest Organics and the support of the Illinois Food Scrap & Composting Coalition we’ve been able to deliver thousands of yards of compost each year to homes, businesses, municipalities, and public spaces throughout the Chicagoland area. We create something with real value: nutrient-rich, biologically active compost that feeds the soil and everything that grows from it. The work of the Illinois Food Scrap & Composting Coalition has helped raise awareness by providing a link between providers like us and others to help public understanding of the benefits of composting while helping to keep this valuable resource out of landfills.~Jim Seckelmann, President of The Mulch Center

The Urban Canopy

The Urban Canopy is working to create a more SUSTAINABLE, NUTRITIOUS, AND EQUITABLE local food cycle from PRODUCTION to DISTRIBUTION to WASTE. They are haulers, growers, distributors, composters and community members who seek to positively impact Chicagoland’s environment, people’s health, and local economy. They strive to make healthy produce accessible to all, reduce the miles fresh food travels, keep food waste out of landfills, and create and maintain local jobs.

We love all the promotion and support IFSCC provides! From compost awareness week, policy development and of course the service map we and the entire composting industry benefit from the work our members contribute. Our business is structured to support the entire food cycle and the collaborative space that IFSCC provides allows us to put our values into practice.~Tom Straus, Co-Lead for Urban Canopy’s Compost Club
