The University of Illinois Extension Cook County and The Plant Chicago have a goal to divert 5 tons of compostable material at their Earth Week Community Compost Collection on Saturday, April 24th from 9 am to 2 pm. Households are invited to drop off yard, garden, and kitchen waste to be composted and keep these materials out of the landfill. As a thank you for dropping of compostable materials you can pick up a bucket of finished compost for your garden!
Acceptable materials include grass clippings, leaves, landscape waste, and kitchen scraps: eggshells, vegetable skins, and stems are welcome but please no products containing oil, dressings, dairy, meat, or bones! Also please avoid bringing sticks and branches that are greater than 2 inches in diameter.
BYOB – Bring your own Bucket (up to 5 gal.) to take home finished compost.
Social distancing and face coverings required to participate in this FREE event. Finished compost is first come first served.
