2016 Composting Policy Forums

In 2016, IFSC held four Stakeholder Forums in Northern Illinois to explore potential policy solutions in the Food Scrap Composting Challenges and Solutions in Illinois Report (2015).

These stakeholder forums included deep dive discussions about the composting policy and infrastructure work of the Illinois Food Scrap Coalition and the Illinois Environmental Council.

Forum 1:  July 11th, 2016; Cook County, Chicago View Presentation

May 2, 2014 – Northeast Illinois - University of Illinois-Chicago, Cook County

September 16, 2014 – Northwest Illinois - Wheaton, DuPage County, Cantigny Park

September 22, 2014 – Central Illinois - Champaign, Champaign County, Champaign Public Library

October 6, 2014 – Southern Illinois - Edwardsville, Madison County, Lewis & Clark Community College, Nelson Campus

October 22, 2014 Wrap Up Session – North-Central Illinois, Parke Regency, Bloomington/Normal

At the forums, we presented research on policies, programs and best practices across the country that promote food scrap composting. We highlighted current initiatives in the state and beyond. We also had roundtable discussions about current challenges related to advancing food scrap composting in Illinois and potential solutions. The groups made recommendations for moving forward that were incorporated into a report on Illinois Food Scrap Composting Challenges and Solutions.
